Gap in the Hedge is a project of reflection and nostalgia. The photographs were taken on a journey the photographer used to make with his mother every time they went to see their relatives in the Rhondda Valley (Wales). The book has the taste of a road trip, of childhood and of life in remote places. Furthermore, the series explores not only the obvious beauty of this iconic landscape of South Wales, but the relationship with its people as well as the tourists and the seasonal workers that inhabit the area. Gap in the Hedge studies the future of the place (especially after Brexit) and its past as a mining community.
Dan Wood is a documentary and portrait photographer based in Bridgend, Wales, UK. Predominantly self-taught, he discovered photography in the early 90’s through the skateboarding scene.
Wood's work primarily concentrates on people & place and the projects he produces usually echo subtle hints of personal history bound with layered narrative, social commentary and political digs at the establishment - which he aims to describe visually.
